Description

For the third time in the era of Manuel Legris as director of the Vienna State Ballet, the ballet season at Vienna State Opera closes with the "Nureyev Gala". This year's edition of this ballet event is dedicated to the 75th anniversary of the birth and the 20th anniversary of the death of the great dancer and choreographer. He grew up in Bashkir Ufa, got trained in Leningrad and was working for the Kirov Ballet. Nureyev began his career in the West after its sensational "jump" of the 1961 that ranks among the most spectacular in the theater history. Almost 25 years Nureyev was also linked to the Vienna Ballet - as a dancer, but at the same time as a producer of classics such as "Swan Lake", "Don Quixote", "The Sleeping Beauty" and "Raymonda". Vienna was also the venue for his debut as a choreographer of his first own creative ballet "Tancredi" to music by Hans Werner Henze. In 1982 Nureyev became an Austrian citizen whereas in 1988 an honorary member of the Vienna State Opera. By ordering the ballet director of the Paris Opera 30 years ago an important phase began in Nureyev's career. Among the Parisian dancers who were particularly encouraged by Nureyev, counted Manuel Legris. As director of the Vienna State Ballet - Manuel Legris now it is oriented in a variety of ways on the model of his mentor.
