Description

LA TRAVIATA

„Speaking as an expert, Rigoletto is my favorite opera, and speaking as a layman, LA TRAVIATA is my favorite.” (Giuseppe Verdi)

La Traviata is an opera by Giuseppe Verdi and Francesco Maria Piave (libretto) based on the novel "The Lady of the Camellias" (1848), of the author Alexandre Duma (fils), which was brought in stage at February 1852 as a play.

The opera was premiered on March 6, 1853 at the "Teatro La Fenice" in Venice and fell initially by the public, before it was revised became one of the most successful operas in music history.

As mentioned in Rigoletto and Il Trovatore, Verdi as person proscribed and rejected by the society evolved in a central artistical figure. An opera about a precious prostitute (then courtesan), which also very realy goes into the details of pulmonar tuberculosis, was an unheard-of innovation for its time. The figure with almost an continous present in the stage Violetta, because of the diversity of expression and the sheer scope, is presented as one of the most glamorous parts of a dramatic soprano. Many great singers celebrated her triumphs as Maria Callas, Renata Tebaldi, Renata Scotto, Teresa Stratas or most recently Diana Damrau, Anna Netrebko and Anja Harteros.
