Description

Le Corsaire - Manuel Legris

Since its premiere on January 23, 1856 at the Paris Opéra (choreography: Joseph Mazilier, Music: Adolphe Adam) the work is one of the most impressive ballets of the 19th century. Special popularity won the Opus through the versions of Jules Perrot (1858) and Marius Petipa (1863) and by Dame Margot Fonteyn and Rudolf Nureyev, which the so-called "Le Corsaire - Pas de deux" helped to worldwide notoriety. At the Vienna State Opera, it has not yet been shown in its entirety. Based on more than 150 years of ballet tradition spanning developed Manuel Legris, the ballet director of the Vienna State Ballet, a special version for his ensemble. He draws mainly from the rich performance traditions of the French and Russian lineage of the work, which he interpreted in his view and experience. Action, music, choreography and equipment are thereby carefully assembled into a new overall picture, which focuses on the highlights of the colorful bustle around the pair, Conrad and Medora. The equipment comes from Luisa Spinatelli, making an already in the case of "Swan Lake" (2013/2014 season) successful and thus well adjusted to each other team to work on Le Corsaire gets together again.
