Without any doubt one of the leading and most famous opera houses in the world. Constructed in the time of Ringstrasse from 1861 untill 1869, from the architects August Sicard von Sicardsburg and Eduard van der Nüll, in neo-Renaisance style. States Opera of Vienna is engaging directly artists from one of the most famous Orchestra, the Vienna Philarmonic Orchestra. The Vienna State Opera is one of the busiest opera houses in the world producing 50 to 60 operas per year and ten ballet productions in approximately 300 performances. Most eminent leaders and compositors that lead this house toward success count Gustav Mahler, Richard Strauss, Karls Böhm, Herbert von Karajan and many others.

Season 2016/2017 at the Vienna State Opera

Wiener Staatsoper Director Dominique Meyer, Ballet Director Manuel Legris, and Managing Director Thomas W. Platzer held a press conference today, Wednesday 6 April 2016, at which they presented the programme for the forthcoming 2016/2017 season.

Wiener Staatsoper’s repertoire is worldwide unique: The new programme features a total of 54 different works of opera covering a total of 275 years of opera history, from Alcina (1735) to Medea (2010), as well as 10 different ballet programmes. In total will be over 350 performances on the programme during this season 2016/2017.

Five opera premières:

  • ARMIDE from Christoph Willibald Gluck
    (16 October 2016 – C: Marc Minkowski; D: Ivan Alexandre; with: Gaëlle Arquez, Paolo Rumetz, Stanislas de Barbeyrac, Gabriel Bermúdez, Jinxu Xiahou, Olga Bezsmertna, Hila Fahima; orchestra: Les Musiciens du Louvre);

  • FALSTAFF from Giuseppe Verdi
    (4 December 2016 – C: Zubin Mehta; D: David McVicar; with: Ambrogio Maestri, Ludovic Tézier, Paolo Fanale, Carmen Giannattasio, Hila Fahima, Marie- Nicole Lemieux, Lilly Jørstad);

  • IL TROVATORE from Giuseppe Verdi
    (5 February 2017 – C: Marco Armiliato; D: Daniele Abbado; with: Ludovic Tézier, Anna Netrebko, Roberto Alagna, Luciana D’Intino);

  • PARSIFAL from Richard Wagner

    (29. June 2017 – C: Kevin Rhodes).

In this season could not miss the best opera singers of the moment such as Anna Netrebko, Camilla Nylund, Olga Peretyatko, Marina Rebeka, Jorge de Leon, KS Placido Domingo, KS Juan Diego Florez, KS Ferruccio Furlanetto, Jonas Kaufmann, Stephen Gould , KS Ramon Vargas, Christopher Ventris, Michael Volle, Markus Werba, Kwangchul Youn, KS Heinz Zednik, among many others.
Other important highlights are the solo concerts of KS Carlos Alvarez, Jonas Kaufmann, KS Placido Domingo, Juan Diego Florez KS, KS Ferruccio Furlanetto among others.

This season presents full of magnificent stars that will play more than 60 operas making a trip throught four centuries, reliving the masterpieces of Mozart, Verdi, Wagner, Puccini, Strauss, Janáček, Adès, Eötvös, Eröd and Dodere, for the enjoyment of a very demanding international audience.
